DHL Expansion Phase 2

The DHL will expand to 30 teams for season 26. Thunderlipps will come out of retirement to be the GM of the Vegas Golden Knights.

Rules for expansion will be the same as last time:
Every team has 3 options for asset protection
Each team will lose only one asset

Option A
Protect 14 assets and the yr 25 draft is exempt

Option B
Flat 15 assets

Option C
16 assets
Give the expansion team 12 million from teams current funds

The expansion team will get:

50 million
6-draft picks (described below)
Same lotto chances as the 3rd place finish can't pick lower than 4.

They get a sandwich pick in between each round
So pick
31- end of the first
61- end of the 2nd
And last pick in the draft pick 91

Each team has to expose at least 2 players 64OV or better and signed for at least a year

Each team must expose 2 prospects born 1992 or after and still playing hockey at some level. ( pro, college, juniors Europe, etc)

Vegas will be allowed to negotiate with teams regarding trades prior to the expansion draft.
The expansion draft will be the first step in the off-season, before the DHL entry draft.

It was originally also stated that the followng 2 off-seasons an expansions respectively would be made. I am aware of at least a handful+ of GMs who already before this announcement had planned for it.

Unlike the last expansion I actually now have a potential asset to lose haha

Like I said I'm good and honestly I'm not trying to start a shit storm or blame John or anyone

But honestly based on how far we were into the season I kinda just figured it was put on ice and was going to be revisited the following year.

I'm a lot better prepared to expand now than later though so I'll just shut up lol


The real question is if the Blues win their 3rd in a row can we expand again the following year and put St. Louis in contraction?

It's the not the ideal timing but we still have the rest of the regular season and the playoffs to make deals. After the season, I'll give at least an extra week as well.

Just for clarification as I believe I asked this privately before but Florida is excluded from the expansion draft, correct? I was always assuming so since that logically would make sense so that both expansion teams would draft the same number of assets and no one would have an “advantage”.

Yeah, Florida is exempt from this one.
